From the early stages of the labyrinth design, the staff from Facilities Grounds and Planning focused on developing a sense of place. Labyrinths can be built from a variety of materials — as simple as laying down a path of stones or as complex as creating a design from pavers or poured concrete. Design considerations included balancing safety and visibility with creating a place that invited reflection. In order to do this, the labyrinth will include lighting features that are internal to illuminate the path. The labyrinth will also be planted with flowers and landscape features selected by the Grounds staff. Finally, trees around the edge of the labyrinth space will create a sense of enclosure while also allowing visibility and access to the site.
